Agricultural waste and residue management for a circular bio-economy: Shared China and EU impact-orientated solutions
On October 22nd and 23rd 2018, the Waste2Bio project along with 200 representatives from policy- maker, academia, industries, public bodies and educators came together in Beijing, China, for a conference on the management of agricultural waste and residue for the circular bio-economy.
The conference began with an overview of the developments of the Circular Economy in the EU and China. Nicholas Dandois, Counsellor for Agriculture – EU Delegation to China, outlined policy developments in relation to the Circular Economy at a European level. Chinese and European case studies of Eco-friendly technologies and bio-products, bioenergy, bio-fertiliser, novel business value chains were presented and discussed in the conference.
Dr Yaying Chen attended the conference as the invited speaker and gave a presentation on the Waste2Bio project to discuss the valorisation of the organic fraction of waste to sustainable bio-fuels and other valuable bio-products. Following the conference, the Exergy team had opportunities to experience the Circular Economy emerging in China through a number of site visits to Deqingyuna Eco Farm, the Nanjing Jufeng Advances Material Co.Ltd. and Nanjing Ningliang Biological Engineering Co. Ltd. Exergy team visited the Biogas plant in the Nanjing Tech University to discuss and learn the latest development in this field.
